Naroditsky: I am pretty confident that Magnus believes Niemann has cheated over the board before Saint Louis

19-year-old Hans Niemann yesterday AGAIN defeated the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, in the 6th round of the Julius Baer Generation Cup, as Magnus Carlsen resigned his game in the second move. Carlsen went offline as soon as he resigned, but he has not withdrawn from the tournament. Replay the game Hans Niemann – Magnus Carlsen here

Susan Polgar commented on Carlsen’s resignation saying it’s: “Definitely a protest move!“, while GM Jon Ludvig Hammer said Carlsen should be sanctioned during the live Norwegian TV program. Fair-Play specialist Kenneth Regan joined the live studio of the Julius Baer Generation Cup and spoke about Carlsen – Niemann’s game at the Sinquefield Cup 2022: Niemann played well, but not too well. Then Anish Giri dropped the bomb, We know about online cheating by multiple other chess players, while Levon Aronian said that he believes Niemann hasn’t been the cleanest person when it comes to online chess

GM Daniel Naroditsky spoke about Carlsen’s resignation during his live stream saying it is obvious that Magnus thinks Hans is a cheater: “It’s clear that Magnus is convinced of one of several things. To me there are two theories that Magnus might be thinking. Obviously, it is clear that Magnus thinks that Hans is a cheater. What does that phrase mean ‘is a cheater’? Does that mean he (Niemann) cheated against him (Carlsen) in Saint Louis or is Magnus forming his opinion based on past tournaments and he thinks that Hans has somehow discredited himself by cheating prolifically over the board and online previously? I think that is the most probable theory if I had to speculate – that Magnus believes that Hans cheated much more prolifically online than Hans admitted in the interview. I am pretty confident that Magnus believes that Hans has cheated over the board before. Maybe not in Saint Louis, but definitely before“. He added that he believes Kenneth Regan’s analysis of Niemann’s games, but also emphasized that Regan’s system might have some imperfections. See the complete video below

Daniel Naroditsky and Hikaru Nakamura spoke about cheating in chess after Carlsen’s withdrawal from the Sinquefield Cup saying that it’s very tricky that online chess platforms for playing don’t have any agreements with FIDE, and that there should be clear communication between the main online servers and FIDE on the matter of cheating.
