Chennai Open: Akash among leaders, Harshavardhan stuns GM Rozum

Former National Champion International Master G Akash shared the lead with 4.0 points after the fourth round of the 11th Chennai Open International Grandmaster Chess tournament 2019 for Sakthi Group Dr N Mahalingam Trophy at Novotel IBIS OMR Hotel, Chennai here today.

GM Norm holder Akash scored over Grandmaster Ziatdinov Raset of USA. In the top board GM Paichadze Luka of Georgia scored over defending Champion, Grandmaster Laxman R R of India.

The Portuguese Chess Federation will hold the Portugal Open from 2-10th February 2019 at the Pavilhão Casal Vistoso in Lisbon.

The tournament will be a 9-round Swiss system, rated for FIDE, and valid for title norms. The tournament is included in the national Classical Chess Circuit.

GM Bai Jinshi winner of North American Open

The 19-years old Grandmaster Bai Jinshi from China has won the 28th Annual North American Open that was held from 26-30th December, 2018, at Bally’s Casino Resort in Las Vegas, USA.

Bai Jinshi completed the event with 7,5/9 points to earn 10200 USD top prize and clear-winner bonus.

IM Dionisio Aldama (Mexico) and IM Zhaozhi Li (USA) shared the second place half a point behind the winner to claim 3750 USD each.

FM Eugene Yanayt, FM Edward Song and Jack Zhu have scored IM norms.

Magnus Carlsen and Kateryna Lagno are World Blitz Champions!

The King Salman World Blitz Chess Championship concluded today in the Manege, St. Petersburg, with Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and Kateryna Lagno (Russia) emerging champions of their respective sections.

After missing the podium in the Rapid Championship, Magnus Carlsen played much better in the Blitz event, holding the top position from the very beginning and securing the gold medal with 17/21 points.
