About RIDEF:

The “RIDEF” is the major event of the Francophone Chess Association which takes place annually since 2013. It is becoming increasingly important every year and has become an expected global event. It is an opportunity for all its members to come together not only to participate in the competitions awarding the various titles Francophone champions, but also to share moments of conviviality conducive to developing north-south mutual aid between Francophones.

The first eight editions were held successively in Marrakech (Morocco), Beirut (Lebanon), Montreal (Canada-Quebec), Menton (France), Yasmine Hammamet (Tunisia), Tirana (Albania), Paris (France) and Casablanca (Morocco). Tunisia will organize for the second time this great annual meeting of the world Francophonie at the Medina Mediterranea of Yasmine Hammamet.

AIDEF and the Tunisian Chess House, under the aegis of FIDE and the Tunisian Chess Federation, will warmly welcome the participants and accompanying persons by offering them a varied and enriching programme and exceptional playing conditions and accommodation.

In addition to the main classic tournament, many activities are planned:

• one or more FIDE training seminars,
• an international conference on the importance of chess practice in schools and the benefits of chess for children,
• the blitz championship,
• excursions,
• traditional Christmas closing dinner and show

Let us not forget that since 1 July 2017, following the decision taken at the FIDE Congress in Baku – Azerbaijan in 2016, the RIDEF have obtained the same status as the Commonwealth or Arab League championships, this implies that titles and norms are awarded directly to the winners.

I hope to welcome even more of you than usual this year at Yasmine Hammamet, not only to participate in the competitions, but also to share our cultural and festive activities conducive to the establishment of lasting links between francophone chess players.
