Grandmaster Vidit Santosh Gujrathi defeated tournament leader and fellow GM Lalith Babu M R moving into shared lead with 5.5 points, after the sixth round of the Chennai Grandmaster International Open Chess tournament held in celebration of the FIDE World Championship Match 2013 at Nehru Stadium, Chennai here today.
Sharing the lead at 5.5 points along with GM Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (India) is Russian International Master Mozharov Mikhail. The third spot is shared by FM Aravindh Chithambaram (India) and Rishi Sardana (Australia) at 5.0 points each.
14-year-old FIDE Master V R Aravindh Chithambaram continued his fine run as he upset fourth seeded Ter-Sahakyan Samvel of Armenia. Showing exemplary skills beyond his age, Aravindh converted a complicated Sicilian middlegame into a favorable endgame, sewing up the game in 47 moves. Aravindh has thus far scalped two Grandmasters and two International Masters coming up with a stunning performance rating of ELO 2713.
