Carlsen will not give any interviews during the tournament

19-year-old Hans Niemann today AGAIN defeated the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, in the 6th round of the Julius Baer Generation Cup, as Magnus Carlsen resigned his game in the second move. While Niemann spoke on the controversy and speculations that started after the Sinquefield Cup 2022, the World Chess Champion did not have any public announcement since his withdrawal from the Grand Chess Tour event. However, as Tarjei J. Svensen reports, Magnus did tell Norwegian TV that he will not give any interviews during the tournament. See the tweet below

The second day of the Julius Baer Generation Cup finished with Carlsen maintaining the sole lead in the tournament but the chess world was once again set on fire. Magnus’s resignation caused different reactions over social medias, with Susan Polgar saying it’s: “Definitely a protest move!“, while GM Jon Ludvig Hammer said Carlsen should be sanctioned during the live Norwegian TV program. Fair-Play specialist Kenneth Regan joined the live studio of the Julius Baer Generation Cup and spoke about Niemann’s recent games, while Levon Aronian said that he can understand Magnus’s frustration.
