World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup 2022 yesterday as he didn’t show up for the game against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. The chess community was stunned by Carlsen’s withdrawal and the rumors have overwhelmed social media. However, Carlsen didn’t publish a public statement on the matter. The last game of the yesterday’s round 4 was played between Fabiano Caruana and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Caruana won the Queen’s endgame with two pawns up and he was very satisfied with his victory. Giving analysis on the game in the post-game interview, Fabiano also shared his thoughts on Magnus’s decision: “I guess there’s a lot of rumors already, and I assume that Magnus Carlsen haven’t given a reason yet why he decided not to play. But probably some people have a decent idea what he (Carlsen) is alluding to“.
