The 101st edition of the Irish National Chess Championship took place from 2-10 July in Dublin. The event was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with participation of 25 players.
18-year-old IM Tarun Kanyamarala convincingly won the event scoring unbeaten 8/9 points. Ireland’s youngest ever International Master will be the 50th person to hold the Irish Chess Champion perpetual trophy. GM Alexander Baburin claimed silver medal with 6.5 points, while FM Tom O’Gorman and FM Colm Daly tied for the third place. Tiebreak criteria favored FM Tom O’Gorman who eventually clinched bronze.
