The Malawi Chess Open Championship 2022 took place from 9-12 June in Lilongwe. The event was played in 9 swiss rounds in the Open section, and 7 swiss rounds in the Women’s section.
George Mwale and Geoffrey Luanja scored 7/9 points each and tied for the first place, but Mwale had a greater number of victories and claimed gold. Geoffrey Luanja came second, while the top seeded player of the event William Mwape scored 6.5/9 points and won bronze medal.

Desiderata Nkhoma claimed the Malawi Women’s Open Championship. Nkhoma had a slow start as she lost the first round, but then scored 5.5/6 to clinch the trophy. Aaliya Patel and Susan Namangale tied for second place with 5/6 points each with Patel winning the silver medal as she defeated Namangale in the direct encounter. (scroll down for final rankings)
