The 32nd Annual Sands Regency Reno – Western States Open was held on 17-19th October at the Sands Regency Hotel in Reno, Nevada, USA.
The tournament consisted of five sections and was completed over six rounds of Swiss system. The total prize fund was $25,000 based on 275 entries, with $16,250 guaranteed.
A total of 175 players competed, with 51 participants in the top Open section.
Grandmasters Melikset Khachiyan, Alexander Ivanov, Alex Yermolinsky, Enrico Sevillano, Walter Browne and IM Andrey Gorovets shared the first place with 4,5 points each.
The side events included blitz tournament, clock simul with GM Sergey Kudrin, simul with GM Alex Yermolinsky and free lectures by IM John Donaldson.
