The Romanian Grand Prix Super Chess Rapid 2022 aka GP Romania is going to start this April 30 at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest. GP Romania 2022 will consist of 5 open qualifying tournaments – three tournaments will consist in classic chess and two in rapid chess – and a grand final – consisting of a closed tournament in which the best Romanians will participate. The events boast a massive prize fund as the Romanian Chess Federation finances each qualifying stage with 15,000 euros, and the final with 25,000 euros.

The organizers state the goal of the events:
Together with organizing the Grand Chess Tour , Romania is aiming to become the “Chess Capital” in Europe
The first stage of the GP Romania is the Grand Prix Super Chess Rapid, which will take place April 30 – May 1. The tournament is a 10 rounds Swiss with time control 15 mins + 5 sec
