Lilongwe, Malawi and the venue

Lilongwe is the capital city of the African country of Malawi. With a population of close to 1 million citizens it is the major economic and cultural hub of Malawi. The city’s proximity to Mozambique and Zambia give Lilongwe additional regional importance.

The venue of the African Individual Chess Championship is the Golden Peacock Hotel. Initially the Crossroads Hotel was the choice, but it was changed a few days before the start of the event.
