The FIDE World Chess Cup 2021 will take place in Sochi, starting July 10, 2021.
Out of 206 players taking part in FIDE World Cup 2021, a large portion will earn their spots through Continental events, allowed to be organized in hybrid or online formats. This is the first time in the history of chess that the World Chess Championship cycle where some of the participants are decided in online events.

- Winner, runner-up and two semi-finalists of the FIDE World Cup 2019
- Reigning Women’s World Chess Champion – GM Ju Wenjun
- 2019 World Junior Champion U20
- 80 players qualifying from Continental events
- 13 highest rated players from the average of 12 FIDE rating lists (in the period from July 2020 to June 2021)
- Highest placed player of the ACP Tour 2021 as per June 1st, 2021
- 100 Federations spots selected according to the average rating of their 10 highest rated players.
- 3 nominees of the FIDE President
- 2 nominees of the Organizer
The event will be played as a knock-out tournament, with a total prize fund of almost 1.9 million dollars.
