The Romanian Women’s Chess Championship 2023 will take place from 18-26 February in Sebes. The event will be simultaneously held with the 2023 Romanian National Chess Championship. Championships will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, plus 15 minutes until the end of the game, with the increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

The WR Chess Masters super-tournament will take place from 16-25 February in Dusseldorf, Germany. The event is played as a 10-player round-robin with Ian Nepomniachtchi, Anish Giri, Wesley So, Levon Aronian, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Gukesh D, Vincent Keymer, Praggnanandhaa and Andrey Esipenko in the field.

Wesley So, Levon Aronian and Andrey Esipenko share the top spot after a fighting first round of the WR Chess Masters. They won the first three decided games of the tournament.

After WGM Jennifer Shahade revealed through her Twitter account that GM Alejandro Ramirez is under multiple investigations for sexual misconduct, the US Chess Federation published the official statement on the recent allegations.

“US Chess is aware that one of its employees has made serious allegations about a member of the chess community. US Chess will not comment on the status of any internal complaint.

Shahade claims that she was assaulted by Ramirez twice and that she saw alarming evidence from other victims, including texts that admitted abuse of a minor.

The Cambridge International Open 2023 is taking place from 15-19 February in Cambridge, England. It is a 9-round Swiss tournament which features more than 140 entries and the prize fund of 4.200£. GM Michael Adams, GM Daniel Dardha, and GM Oleg Korneev are the top-seeded players.
