GM Fabiano Caruana took over the sole lead of the U.S. Championship by defeating co-leader GM Hans Niemann. In the U.S. Women’s Championship, WGM Tatev Abrahamyan and WGM Jennifer Yu won to join FM Alice Lee for the lead.

After Hans Niemann defeated the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Carlsen decided to withdraw from the tournament without detailed explanations.

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen currently plays the European Chess Club Cup 2022 where he competes for Norwegian Offerspill Chess Club. Magnus scores 3.5/4 points while his team ties for the third place with 8 match points. After defeating Anton Korobov in the fifth round of the event, Magnus Carlsen joined Fiona Steil-Antoni for the post-game interview.

The 8th edition of the Global Chess Festival is being held today, October 8th, in Budapest, Hungary.
