Interview with GM Kiril Georgiev

Bulgarian Grandmaster Kiril Georgiev recently won the incredibly strong Karpos Open Tournament in Skopje. WGM Iva Videnova interviewed the winner for Chessdom.

Chessdom: Kiril, congratulations for winning Karpos Open, one of the strongest open tournaments in Europe. Would you share your impressions?

Kiril Georgiev clear first in Karpos Open 2014

The fourth edition of Karpos Open took place in Skopje from 29 March-5 April 2014, at Hotel Aleksandar Palace.

The event was a 9 rounds open tournament with a prize fund of 25,000 EUR and a total of 262 players from 38 different countries, 17 of which over 2600 ELO.

The Bulgarian Grandmaster Kiril Georgiev had an amazing finish, winning his last four games in a row, thus taking clear first place with 7.5/9.

The event took place in the walled city with medieval castle Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, on 10 – 13 April, 2014.

MalakhhitThe Russian Team Chess Championships for Men and Women took place in Loo, Russia from 7th to 13th April, 2014. The top seeded team of Malakhit took the gold medal with 12 points, leaving ShSM Moscow one point behind.

The 13th Asian Continental Individual Open and Women’s Chess Championships are going to take place 16th to 26th April 2014 in Sharjah , United Arab Emirates. 100+ titled players will compete for 66000 USD.

The top five from the 2014 Asian Open Championship qualify for the 2015 World Cup. The 2014 Asian Women’s champion qualifies for the 2015 Women’s World Championship.

Round 1 is April 16th at 14:00 CET

International Bad Ragazer Oster-Open 2014

The 9th International Bad Ragazer Oster-Open is set to take place on 17-20th April at the Saal des Mehrzweckgebäudes in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.

Currently 108 players are registered to take part in the 7-round Swiss event. Top prizes are CHF 1000, 700, 500, 400, 300.

The 13th Asian Continental Individual Open and Women’s Chess Championships are going to take place 16th to 26th April 2014 in Sharjah , United Arab Emirates. The 2014 Asian Women’s champion qualifies for the 2015 Women’s World Championship.

Field, Commentators Set for 2014 US Championships

Next month, the top chess players in the country will meet in Saint Louis to compete for the tile of U.S. Champion and U.S. Women’s Champion.

The fields are set for both the 2014 U.S. Championship and 2014 U.S. Women’s Championship, scheduled to be held simultaneously May 7 through May 20 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL).

Ashritha Eswaran, 13, received the final wildcard invitation to the U.S. Women’s Championship to round out the fields.
