On one of the perfect days of Georgian winter, drinking a cup of hot tea at home in Tbilisi, thinking how boring the winter was, I received a facebook message from Martha Fierro, the secretary of the FIDE Women Commission (“WOM”) presided by former Women World Chess Champion Susan Polgar.

Russian Grandmaster Maxim Turov emerged clear winner of the 39th Seville Open after defeating the last year champion GM Stewart Haslinger in the last round. Turov concluded the event with 8,0/9 points.

Magnus Carlsen took the world by storm as a child prodigy, becoming an international Grand Master at 13. At 19, he was the youngest chess player to be ranked number one in the world, and at 22, in November 2013, he defeated five-time former world champion Viswanathan Anand. Now, at age 23, Magnus holds a record rating of 2872.

Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial, Stage of Russian Chess Cup Men 2014, is going to take place 18-26 January. This is the classical part of the event, you can see a detailed report about the rapid at this link.

The classical event is 9 rounds Swiss system with top seeded Anton Korobov (2723) and over 50 titled players.

Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial, Stage of Grand Prix – Cup of Russia Rapid Chess 2014, was held on 15-16th January in Taganrog, Russia.

The tournament was organized by the Russian Chess Federation and the Rostov Oblast Chess Federation.

128 players from Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia competed in the 11-round Swiss event.
