Day 5 of the Superbet Chess Classic Romania came with an exciting finish with Fabiano Caruana taking down Azeri Shakhriyar Mamedyarov to get back to fifty percent. Today’s games brought some surprise lines and missed opportunities, but was overall a peaceful day.

The American grandmaster Hans Niemann won the 27th edition of the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament scoring unbeaten 5/7 points. The Rio Negro International Chess Tournament 2022 will be played from 11-15 May in the Argentinian city of Cipolletto.

More than 170 players from 7 countries registered for the tournament, competing for the total prize fund of 600.000 pesos in 9 rounds, swiss system. The battlefield is led by the two best rated Argentinians: GM Sandro Mareco (2653) and GM Alan Pichot (2652).

The FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 was announced in late December last year, with the dates, place and the sponsor. FIDE disclosed the event will take place in Madrid, June 16 – July 7 The Candidates Chess 2022 is an 8 player double round robin tournament with some of the world’s top Grandmasters.

Day 4 of the Superbet Chess Classic Romania was projected to be another eventful day and it did not fail to disappoint. With three decisive games, and quickly approaching the halfway point of the tournament we can only expect to see more thrilling games in future rounds. After an exciting game to take down one of his co-leaders, Grandmaster Wesley So has taken the sole lead with 3 points out of 4, distancing himself by half a point from his competitors sharing 2nd place.
