Michael Adams and Jovanka Houska are 2016 British Champions

Michael Adams, the long-time highest rated English player on the FIDE rating list, has won the British Chess Championships 2016 in Bournemouth to add to his 4 previous British titles.

His score of 10/11 equalled the record set by Julian Hodgson in 1992 and, given that future championships are planned to be run over 9 rounds, this was probably the last opportunity for the record to be equalled or exceeded.

Sinquefield Chess Cup 2016 LIVE!

The 2016 Sinquefield Cup, part of the Grand Chess Tour, is taking place August 5-16 in Saint Louis, USA. Chessdom.com is going to cover the games with live analysis by the TCEC engines Komodo, Stockfish, and Houdini, as well as Grandmaster commentary in the ChessArena video channel.

Italian National Youth Championship 2016

The Italian National U16 Youth Championship was held in Olbia from June 25th to July 2nd. The Championship was organized by Accademia Internazionale di Scacchi.

697 young players from all over Italy came to the Geovillage Sport and Resort in Sardinia to participate to one of the biggest editions ever.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Suzdal, Russia

From 31 July to 4 August 2016 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Suzdal, Russia, by the Russian Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Alexander Tkachev (RUS), FIDE Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer was IA Alexander Ivanov (RUS).

The language of the Seminar was Russian.

Seven (7) national arbiters from Russia participated in the Seminar and all of them took part in the examination test held after the lectures.

LSG IntelliMagic enters European Club Cup 2016

LSG IntelliMagic from the Netherlands completed the registration for the 2016 European Chess Club Cup.

In their own words: “LSG (Leidsch Schaakgenootschap) was founded in 1895. We participated in the European Club Cup in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2015. Our best performance was last year with a 9th place. We are looking forward to the next edition in Novi Sad.”

The 2016 Biel Master Tournament took place from 25th July to 3rd August, as part of the 49th Biel International Chess Festival.

The 9-round Swiss open gathered 112 participants rated above 2000 elo.
