One would expect that ex World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova’s shared third at the Women Grand Swiss would be major news in Bulgaria. Or that the performance of her husband Ivan Cheparinov at the Grand Swiss and his return to top 100 would be a headline. Or that Nurgyul Salimova’s rating recovery could be a topic in national media. But alas, no.

Kiril Georgiev and Iva Videnova-Kuljasevic share first in Plovdiv

GM Kiril Georgiev and IM/WGM Iva Videnova-Kuljasevic finished shared first at the 55th edition of the First Weekend Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The event was part of the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the Unification and collected strong local participation.

Georgiev and Videnova-Kuljasevic shared first place with 5,0/6 each. They played an Armageddon as a prize tiebreaker, where Kiril Georgiev won.

2025 XTX Markets London Chess Classic

The XTX Markets London Chess Classic (LCC) returns to the capital between 26th November and 7th December 2025. Following GM Gawain Jones’s victory in 2024, the event will once again be held largely at the iconic Emirates Stadium, switching to London Novotel West in Hammersmith to avoid clashes with Arsenal home matches.

ECU Chess Championship for rating categories U1700, U2000, and U2300

The republic of Malta will be the host of the 2025 European Chess Championships for the U-1700, U-2000 and U-2300 categories. The tournament will take place November 25 – December 5 and will boast a prize fund of 4600 eur. All players and delegation members have to register before the deadline of 10 October 2025.
