The Women’s World Chess Championship Match between Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine) and Hou Yifan (China) is taking place from 1-19th March at the Potocki Palace in Lviv, Ukraine.

The opening ceremony will take place tonight at 19:00 local time at the Lviv Opera House.

15th Rochefort Chess Festival concluded

The 15th Rochefort Chess Festival was held from 20th to 26th February at the Congres Palais, in Rochefort, France.

51 players competed in the Masters section which was reserved for the players rated above 1900. Grandmaster Ventzislav Inkiov (Bulgaria) won the first place with 7 points. He was followed by Master Diego Di Berardino (Brazil) and Grandmaster Rustam Khusnutdinov with also 7 points, but worse tie-break.

Deysi Cori is American Continental Champion

The American Continental Women’s Championship was held from 20-28th February at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru.

The local star WGM Deysi Cori emerged champion by finishing the tournament with 7,5/9 points, half a point ahead of the second-seed WGM Maritza Arribas (Cuba).

16-years-old GM Bai Jinshi wins Cannes Open

The 2016 Cannes International Chess Open was held from 22-28th February at Rotonde Lérins in Cannes, France.

The event consisted of three sections – Open A for players rated over 2100, Open B for players rated under 2200 and Open C for players rated under 1600.

The main Open A tournament had 111 participants. The 16-years-old GM Bai Jinshi from China edged the more experienced players to claim the top prize with 7,5/9 points.
