British Chess Championship 2014 LIVE!

The British Individual Chess Championship 2014 is taking place from 19th July to 2nd August 2014 at the Aberystwyth University, Penglais Campus, in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.

The event is an 11-round Swiss Open, including 59 participants.

Top prizes: 5.000 £/ 2.500 £/ 1.500 £/ 1.000 £/ 750 £/ 500 £/ 250 £

First seed is GM David Howell.

33rd Internet based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar

Official FIDE logoFrom 9 to 13 June 2014 the 33rd Internet based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was held, organized by the Chess Educators of USA and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer and Technical Organizer of the seminar was IA/IO Sevan Muradian (USA), FIDE Lecturer.

The language of the Seminar was English.

FIDE Zone 1.5 Meeting in Novi Sad

The Serbian Chess Federation was host to the FIDE Zone 1.5 meeting, which was held on 17th July at Master Hall in Novi Sad, the venue of the International Championship of Vojvodina.

The meeting was chaired by President of FIDE Zone 1.5 and President of Serbian Chess Federation Miroslav Kopanja.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Executive Assistant Berik Balgabaev, Presidents and officials of Montenegro, Turkish, Greek and Albanian Chess Federations attended the meeting.

32nd Andorra Open 2014 LIVE!

The 32nd edition of Andorra International Chess Open is organized by Federació d’Escacs Valls d’Andorra on 19-27th July 2014 at the Sant Gothard Hotel in Erts (La Massana).

The event will be a 9-round Swiss Open, valid for FIDE rating and norms.

Top seed is GM Julio Granda (Peru).

GM Valentina Gunina is second time European Women’s Champion

The 15th European Individual Women’s Chess Championship was held from 5th to 18th July 2014, in Plovdiv, the second-largest city in Bulgaria and one of the oldest in the world.

The format of the tournament was an 11-round Swiss with a time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.
