The North Island Chess Championships 2025 is going to take place July 4 – July 7 in New Plymouth, New Zealand. The FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2025 is taking place September 3 – September 16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It will be an 11-round Swiss-system tournament and forms part of the qualification cycle for the World Chess Championship 2026. The winner and runner-up of the tournament will earn the right to play in the Candidates Tournament 2026.

The Biel Chess International Festival 2025 is taking place July 12 – July 25 in Switzerland. Biel Masters 2025 is one of the Top Events in The Chess Calendar and features Aravindh Chithambaram, Quang Liem Le (now replaced by Fedoseev, see below), Frederik Svane, Volodar Murzin, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, and Saleh Salem

GM Christopher Yoo has been temporarily suspended by FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission. However, the suspension is not a result of the incident in Saint Louis, rather it is a new case of harassment complaint.

The traditional chess open Open Internacional Escacs Barbera del Valles is going to take place July 4 – July 12 in Barbera del Valles, Barcelona, Spain. It is the 47th edition of the tournament, making it one of the long standing events on the Iberian Peninsula. Top seeded participants are GM Manuel Petrosyan (2541), GM Jaime Alexander Cuartas (2521), GM Karen H. Grigoryan (2520), GM Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason (2488), GM Daniel Alsina Leal (2487), GM Luis Lazaro Aguero Jimenez (2483).

WIM Trisha Kanyamarala is the winner Carlow Rapid Chess 2025 that took place this weekend in Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow, Ireland. Trisha Kanyamarala collected 6,0/7, the same score as Saptorshi Gupta, IM Tarun Kanyamarala, and Vitaliy Salmin, but won the gold medal on a better tiebreak.

FIDE Women World Chess Cup 2025 is taking place July 5 – July 29 in Batumi, Georgia, and is one of the major events of The Chess Calendar. A total of 107 participants (increased from the initially announced 103 participants) will compete for 691 000 eur prize fund.

16 year old Afruza Khamdamova won the top women prize at the Aktobe Open – Dvorkovich Memorial. Along the way, Afruza Khamdamova completed the requirements for a final WGM norm and the requirements for an IM norm. She achieved a new peak rating of 2378 ELO, adding 52 points this month, and completed her first 2500+ elo performance.

Alexey Sarana is the winner of Aktobe Open – Dvorkovich Memorial. Sarana collected 7,5/9, half a point ahead of a large group of players, including GM Aryan Chopra (2620), GM Zhamsaran Tsydypov (2514), GM Pa Iniyan (2573), GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev (2500), and GM Hao Wang (2701).
