Paris Grand Chess Tour 2017 LIVE!

The 2017 Grand Chess Tour is taking place June 21-25 in Paris. It is a rapid and blitz competition with the top players in the world. Thanks to the organizers it will be with live video and analysis on the internet, including here on Chessdom.com, with GM Yasser Seirawan, GM Cristian Chirila, and IM Jovanka Houska for studio commentary along with GM Maurice Ashley and GM Romain Edouard who will be reporting live from the ground in Paris.

Russia and China leading in World Team Championship

On June 20, the games of the 4th Round of the World Chess Team Championships were played in Khanty-Mansiysk.

In the men’s event Russia beat Belarus 3:1 (the winners were Ian Nepomniachtchi and Maksim Matlakov).

Poland leads the World Team Championship

On June 19, the matches of the 3rd round of the World Team Championships were played in Khanty-Mansiysk.

In the men’s tournament the leaders, team Poland, defeated Egypt three to one (the winners were Radoslaw Wojtaszek and Jan Krzisztof Duda, the other two games were drawn).

Russia won the match against Ukraine by a slim margin. The victory was supplied by Jan Nepomniachtchti, who had beaten Anton Korobov on the 2nd board.

European Amateur Chess Championship concluded in Nis

The European Amateur Chess Championship was held in excellent conditions from 9-17th June at the Tami Residence in Nis, Serbia.

The Championship, organized by the Chess Federation of City of Nis and under the auspices of European Chess Union, consisted of three different rating categories: 0-1699, 1700-1999 and 2000-2300.

FIDE World Chess Team Championships – Round 2

The second round of the Team World Championships took place in Khanty-Mansiysk on June 18.

The guest of honor of this round was the Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra Natalya Komarova who, together with FIDE Vice-President Javier Ochoa, gave a start to the women’s match between Russia and Vietnam. After that the head of the Okrug made the first symbolic move in the game Svidler – Solak (Russia vs. Turkey match).

FIDE World Chess Team Championships – Round 1

Round 1 of FIDE World Chess Team Championships was played on June 17 in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The first symbolic move in the starting round of the Women’s Team Championship was made on Alexandra Kosteniuk’s behalf by the Deputy Governor of Ugra Mr. Vsevolod Koltsov.

A similar “pawn face-off” in the game between Ian Nepomniachtchi and the Egyptian chess player Hesham Abdelrahman was jointly made by President of Ugra Chess Federation Vasily Filipenko and FIDE Vice-President Javier Ochoa.

Levon Aronian wins Altibox Norway Chess

Levon Aronian emerged winner of Altibox Norway Chess 2017 which was held in Stavagner, Norway from 5th-17th June.

Aronian showed that he is in a great form having already won two tournaments this year (Grenke Chess Classic and now Altibox Norway Chess) and crossing again the 2800 line.
