European Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship 2014

Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club, under the patronage of the European Chess Union and the Polish Chess Federation, organizes the European Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship 2014, from 19-21 December, 2014, in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Championship will be held under the auspices of Rafa Dutkiewicz – the President of the city of Wroclaw and will bear the name the 23rd Adolf Anderssen Memorial.

2014 Chess Championship of PortugalThe final stage of the Portuguese Chess Championship 2014 will be held from 7th to 13th September at the Hotel AS in Lisbon.

Ten players will compete in the round robin tournament.

World Senior Chess Championships 2014

The World Senior Chess Championship will be held in Katerini, Greece from 23 October to 5 November 2014.

The tournament will take place in the conference center of “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini, Olympus Riviera, Greece.

The Championship is organized in categories over 50 and over 65 with separate tournament for women.

Hou Yifan wins FIDE Grand Prix Series, Ju Wenjun takes lead in Sharjah

With a draw against Elina Danielian in the 9th round of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah, UAE, the World Champion Hou Yifan secured overall first place in the FIDE Women Grand Prix Series 2013-2014.

Yifan’s main competitor in the Series, Humpy Koneru, fell behind in the standings and can not catch up with only two rounds to go.

Meanwhile in the ongoing event in Sharjah, Ju Wenjun moved into sole lead by defeating Harika Dronavalli to stay half a point ahead of Yifan.

Caruana finishes historic run with draw against World Champion, wins $100,000

Clinching first place of the 2014 Sinquefield Cup is GM Fabiano Caruana, who claimed the lion’s share of the U.S. super tournament’s $315,000 prize fund with two rounds remaining.

What was left behind, however, was a monumental streak of seven-consecutive wins against the highest-rated field in history – versus five of the world’s current top-ten International Grandmasters.

Wesley So wins another Noel Skelton Open

The 3rd Annual Noel Skelton Open was held on 30-31st August (Labor Day Weekend) at the Crown Plaza Minneapolis West, in Plymouth, Minnesota.

Grandmaster Wesley So repeated the last year’s success to once again emerge clear winner of the top Premier section. Wesley won four games and conceded only one draw to stay half a point above the rest of the field and earn $1000 top prize.
