Corina Peptan and Constantin Lupulescu are 2015 Romanian Chess Champions

The 2015 Romanian Chess Championships for men and women were held from 18-26th April in Calimanesti.

The men’s tournament had 32 participants, while the women’s section had 24 players. Both events were completed over nine rounds of Swiss system.

Marija Rakic is 2015 Serbian Women’s Champion

WIM Marija Rakic justified her ranking as the top seed to win the 2015 Serbian Women’s Championship, claiming her second national title after 2012.

Magnus Carlsen wins Gashimov Memorial 2015 (Video)

World Champion Magnus Carlsen has won the Gashimov Memorial for the second year running after concluding the event with 7 points from nine games.

SPICE Cup 2015

The 2015 SPICE Cup Open, sponsored by Webster University and the Susan Polgar Foundation, is scheduled to take place on 17-22nd October at the Crowne Plaza Clayton Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

The 9-round Swiss tournament is open to the players rated over 2100 FIDE and will provide opportunity for GM/IM norms. Time Control: G/90 + 30 second increment from move 1.

The total prize fund is $15,000 guaranteed.

Gashimov Memorial 2015 – Round 8 (Video)

The 2nd Vugar Gashimov Memorial is taking place on 16-25th April, 2015, in Shamkir, Azerbaijan.

Viswanathan Anand inched closer to the leader World Champion Magnus Carlsen after defeating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in round eight. Heading into the final round Carlsen still holds half a point advantage.

Vladimir Kramnik recovered after three consecutive loses, while Michael Adams scored his first victory.

2015 Lithuanian Men’s Championship LIVE!

The 2015 Lithuanian Men’s Chess Championship is taking place from 24-30th April, in Kaunas, the second-largest city in Lithuania.

The event is a 10-player round-robin tournament with an average Elo rating of 2366.

Official FIDE tournaments in FIDE Online Arena

FIDE Online Arena has just announced the regulations of the 1st FIDE World Online Amateur Blitz Championship and the 1st FIDE World Online Junior Blitz Championship.

For each competition a total prize fund of 4250 USD will be distributed to the winners. Both Championships consist of a qualifying phase, a semi-final and a final tournament. Qualifying tournaments will be held on Thursdays from April 9th, 2015 (Amateur 1) to August 20th, 2015 (Junior 8).

FIDE President elected to SportAccord Council

Sochi, Russia: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of FIDE and International Mind Sports Association has been voted into the SportAccord Council as the representative of the Associate Members.

Mr. Ilyumzhinov was elected unanimously as the Associate Members’Council member after the other two candidates withdrew from the election.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen extended his lead to full point after defeating Vladimir Kramnik. Viswanathan Anand advanced to second place after Wesley So lost to Fabiano Caruana.
