Unveiling of the Vugar Gashimov monument

A bronze monument dedicated to memory of Grandmaster Vugar Gashimov was unveiled today in Baku. Gashimov would have turned 28 on this day.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismail Ismailov and Gashimov family attended the ceremony.

Palau ready for Chess Olympiad in Tromso

For the first time Palau is sending both an Open and Women’s Team to participate in the Chess Olympiad.

Tromso will see a debut for the Women’s, while the Open Team previously competed in Istanbul 2012.

29th International Chess Open Teteven 2014

The 29th Teteven Open is taking place on 9-17th August 2014 in Teteven, a town in north central Bulgaria, located in a mountainous area, in the foothills of the Balkan mountains.

The tournament is organized in a 9-round Swiss format by Chess Club “An Pasan” and Teteven Municipality, under the auspices of the Bulgarian Chess Federation. The time control will be 90′/ 40 + 30′ + 30″.

Andrey Filatov on decision to run for Vice President of FIDE

The FIDE leadership elections will take place this August in Tromso, Norway during the World Chess Olympiad.

The FIDE President will be elected on 11 August, while the Vice Presidents will be elected on 12 August, with 180 delegates from national chess federations and FIDE members taking part in the voting process.

Sergei Rublevsky wins the rapid tournament in Barnaul

The Cup of the Altai Krai Governor was held on 18-20th July at the Valery Zolotukhin Theater in province capitol Barnaul.

The event was organized by the Russian Chess Federation, Altai Krai Chess federation and Altai Krai Sports Department.

The 11-round Swiss rapid open with time control 15 min + 10 sec is valid for the Rapid Grand-Prix of Russia. 120 players competed.

5th Iberoamerican Individual Chess Championship 2014 LIVE!

The 5th Iberoamerican Individual Chess Championship is taking place on 22-30rd July 2014 in Linares, a city located in the Andalusian Province of Jaen, Spain.

The event is a 9-round Swiss, that gathers 82 players from 20 different eligible countries, including 15 GMs, 19 IMs, 2 WGMs and 2 WIMs. First seed is GM Axel Bachmann (Paraguay) 2652.
