The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2014, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, is taking place from 4th to 12th May, 2014 at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. More information here.

Grandmaster Timur Gareev won the main Open section of the 3rd Annual Larry Evans Memorial in Reno, Nevada.

The event, formerly known as Far West Open, was held on 18-20th April. A total of 200 players competed in five regular and two extra sections.

The 7th New York International Chess Tournament, organized by the historic Marshall Chess Club, will take place from June 18-22, 2014, at a luxurious private club in Midtown Manhattan under impeccable playing conditions.

The event will consist of three sections: FIDE Norm, U2200 and U1900.

Since its premiere in 2008, the event has grown every year in size and strength and is an excellent opportunity for both established Grandmasters and younger players who seek to obtain IM and GM norms.

The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.

Last year the winner was the late GM Igor Kurnosov.

Stage 4 of TCEC – Season 6 is in progress. The top 4 engines in the world compete for the first 2 spots that lead into the Superfinal.

The 17th Bulgarian Children’s Cup “The Queen of Tarnovo” breaks the participation record, gathering 255 players for the competitions that were held on 1st and 2nd of May, 2014 at hotel “Etar”, in the old Bulgarian capital Veliko Tarnovo.

The tournament was organized by Chess Club “Etar”, Bulgarian Chess Federation and Veliko Tarnovo Municipality in 4 Section (under 14, 12, 10 and 8), though the winners were 8 – 4 girls and 4 boys.

Following the qualification tournament in Barquisimeto, Venezuela Chess Federation has completed the teams for the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway.

GM Andrey Vovk from Ukraine claims the 20th Cutro Open with 6,5/9 points, leaving the nearest follower half a point behind.

The 11th International Open Calvi will take place from 3rd to 4th of May, 2014, in Balagna, while 1st International Open Porticcio will be held from 6th to 11th May, 2014 at Hotel Club Marina Viva, in Porticcio.

Estonian Chess Championship is taking place from 28th April to 4th May, 2014, in Tallinn, Estonia. More information here
