World Junior Chess Championships 2014

The World Junior Chess Championship 2014 (for boys & girls under 20) will be held in Pune, India, from 5th October (arrival) to 20th October (departure) 2014.

The Championship will be organized and conducted by Maharashtra Chess Association under the auspices of AICF and FIDE.

Last year champions were Yu Yangyi and Alexandra Goryachkina.

Kenya selected players for Chess Olympiad in Tromso

Capablanca Memorial 2014 LIVE!

The 49th edition of the Tournament Capablanca in Memoriam 2014 will take place on 7-18th May at the Habana Riviera Hotel in La Havana, Cuba. The event is organized by the Cuban Chess Federation and the Instituto Nacional de Deportes Educación Física y Recreación (INDER).

The World Champion Magnus Carlsen played a promotional match against Norwegian chess fans today in Oslo. Carlsen, with the black pieces, was held to a draw by “Team Norway” in a Sicilian game.

Talking about the back-to-back losses, Carlsen said that his head didn’t work well, partly because of the long games and partly because he was watching too much TV – football, NBA, reality shows.

The football game on the rest day “helped him to get some aggression out”.

Tschaturanga Open 2014

The Tschaturanga Open 2014 is taking place from 5th to 11th May, 2014 at Cafe Schönbrunn, in Vienna, Austria.

The tournament is a 7 round Swiss Open with total prize fund of 1600€. In addition, the event has a qualifying character for Vienna State Championship 2014.

Kramnik also explains why he is not a typical competitive chess player, mentioning how Carlsen, Kasparov and Karpov wanted to win at all costs in whatever they were doing, even when playing cards.
