2014 Polish Chess Championship

The Polish Chess Championship for Men is taking place March 25 – April 2. A total of 22 players participate, of them 12 are Grandmasters. Top seeded is Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2713), followed by Mateusz Bartel (2662), Bartosz Socko (2651), Michal Krasenkow (2640), Grzegorz Gajewski (2631), Dariusz Swiercz (2631), Kacper Piorun (2570), Tomasz Markowski (2566), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2563), etc.

GM Saša Martinović wins Zagreb Open on tie-break

The 2014 Zagreb Chess Open was held on 17-24th March at the Panorama Zagreb Hotel, Krešimir Ćosić Square in Zagreb, Croatia.

The nine round Swiss tournament was organized by the Zagreb Chess Union and the Zagreb Sports Union. 197 players from ten countries competed. There were 16 Grandmasters and 15 International Masters in the field.

Anand maintains one point lead after round 10

Former World Champion Viswanathan Anand maintained a full point lead in the FIDE World Candidates Tournament after playing a draw with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in round 10.

Anand’s nearest rival Levon Aronian also made a draw, with white against Veselin Topalov.

In the all-Russian matches Peter Svidler defeated Vladimir Kramnik, while Sergey Karjakin and Dmitry Andreikin drew.

Team Guam heads to Tromso Chess Olympiad

Guam Echecs, established in 2010, will send a team to the 41st Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway. This will be the first participation of Guam in the most important chess event.

FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia

The 4th tournament of the FIDE Women’s Grand-Prix 2013-2014 is taking place from 7th to 22nd April in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Twelve players will compete in the round robin tournament. The event is organized by the Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug, FIDE, Russian Chess Federation and Ugra Chess Academy.

GM Anton Demchenko is champion of the Russian Southern Federal District

The Championship of Russian Southern Federal District for men concluded this weekend in Astrakhan.

The playing field consisted of 42 participants, including two Grandmasters and five International Masters.

Grandmaster Anton Demchenko from Novorossiysk emerged convincing winner of the tournament with 8,0/9 points, leaving the second placed GM Alexander Evdokimov (Astrakhan) a full point behind.

IM David Gochelashvili (Sochi), Renat Bigaliyev (Astrakhan) and Ayush Arshaev (Kalmykia) shared the third place with 6,5 points each.

Komodo and Stockfish neck in neck after R5 of TCEC Stage 2
