Q: Hello Zurab, thank you for accepting to answer a couple of questions for Chessdom. Your federation has made a rich bid for the Olympiad 2018 and the World Cup 2017. As I understand with your personal support the combined budget for the Olympiad and the World Cup has grown up to 20 million USD! Can you tell us how did you convince the government to accept this?

The 8th Annual Long Island Open was held from March 28-30, 2014, at the Ramada Plaza Long Island MacArthur Airport Hotel, 1730 N. Ocean Ave, Holtsville, New York.

The 1st quarter FIDE Presidential Board was held on 30th March at the conference room of Ugra Classic Complex in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

This summer in Sicily there will be a nice international chess festival – the 5th “Terre degli Elimi”. It will be one intense chess week in July.

Erice is a magic ancient place and in the afternoons the players are free to visit places of incomparable beauty and charm as Segesta, the Egadi Islands, Zingaro, Scopello.

The Veaceslav Cebanenco Memorial is scheduled to take place on 1-2nd April at the Republican Chess and Draughts Club, Sciusev street 111, in Chisinau, Moldova.

The Ugra Chess Academy has organized a blitz tournament on 29th March as one of the side events taking place during the FIDE Candidates Tournament.

The 9-round Swiss with 80 participants was held at the beautiful Ugra Athletic Stadium.

The total prize fund was 2000 EUR, with 200 EUR reserved for the winner. There were also special prizes for women, veterans, U18 and U12 juniors.

The Limhamn Chess Club is announcing that the 22nd Annual Sigeman Chess Tournament will take place on 15-19th May at the classical Hipp Theater in central Malmo, Sweden.

The Georgian Chess Federation sent an official bid for the Chess Olympiad 2018 and the World Cup 2017 to FIDE today, with all the necessary guarantees.

The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2014 will be held at the Dubai Culture & Chess Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 15th June to 21st June 2014.
