BIDDING PROCEDURE FOR THE FIDE WORLD WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP 2014

1. FIDE is opening a bidding procedure for the FIDE World Women’s Championship (knock-out system, 64 players) to be held 9-31 October 2014.

2. Each bid shall contain the following particulars as minimum:

a) Proposed venue of the event.

Poikovsky wildcard for ACP nominee

acp-logoThe Association of Chess Professionals has reached an agreement with the organizers of Poikovsky – one of the strongest Grandmaster tournaments in the World.

GM Eugene Perelshteyn wins 3rd Recession Buster

The 3rd Annual Recession Buster Open was held on 15-17th February at the Marriott San Diego Airport/Liberty Station in San Diego, USA.

The playing format was 6-round Swiss and the tournament consisted of six sections: Open, U2200, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400. The guaranteed prize fund was 20,000 USD.

The main Open section (FIDE rated) gathered 42 players. Grandmaster Eugene Perelshteyn emerged clear winner with 5,0/6 points to take the top prize of $2400.

Mediterranean Flower 2014

The 14th International Chess Festival Mediterranean Flower will take place from 2nd to 8th March at the Chess Club Rijeka in Rijeka, Croatia.

The 10-players round robin event is organized by the Chess Club Draga.

Presidents Weekend Championship Concluded

The Presidents Weekend Championship took place on 14-16th February at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Coral Springs, Florida, USA.

The tournament was organized by Boca Raton Chess Club. The playing format was 5-round Swiss with five sections (Open, U2100, U1800, U1500, U1000).

GM Julio Becerra won the Open section with 4,5/5 points.

Zagreb Open 2014

The 2014 Zagreb Chess Open will be held on 17-24th March at the Panorama Zagreb Hotel, Krešimir Ćosić Square in Zagreb, Croatia.

The nine round Swiss tournament is organized by the Zagreb Chess Union and the Zagreb Sports Union.

The total prize fund is 7800 EUR, with 1550 EUR reserved for the champion. Last year the convincing winner was GM Robert Zelcic.

Baadur Jobava wins David Bronstein Memorial on tiebreak

Georgian Grandmaster Baadur Jobava wins the David Bronstein Memorial in Minsk after edging Sergey Fedorchuk and Mikhailo Oleksienko (both Ukraine) on tie-break. The three players completed the event with 7,0/9 points each.

The Belarus Chess Federation organized the International Open Tournament from 11th to 19th February to mark the 90th anniversary of David Bronstein’s birth.
