Hans Niemann scored his third consecutive victory at the US Chess Championship after defeating Samuel Sevian in today’s 12th round. Niemann managed to score in a thrilling endgame as Sevian missed his chances to hold a draw. An interesting and unusual situation was spotted on the venue’s camera which showed the players communicating during the game.

19-year-old Hans Niemann defeated Samuel Sevian in the 12th round of the US Chess Championship. Altogether with the exciting game, the audience could have seen an interesting unusual situation. Samuel Sevian accidentally decapitated Niemann’s king, picked it up from the board in the middle of the game, and tried to fix it. The 19-year-old protested and asked for his King back. Magnus Carlsen claimed the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 title with a tournament to spare! Defeating Arjun Erigaisi in the quarter-finals of the 8th and penultimate event of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour with a convincing 2.5-1.5 result, Carlsen secured the title of the tour champion and a 50.000$ prize on top of his overall winnings (so far) of 192.000$.

Magnus Carlsen sealed the overall Meltwater Champions Chess Tour title for the second year running – this time with an event to spare – after storming into the semi-finals of the Aimchess Rapid.

Norway’s world number 1, going for a hat-trick of tournament wins in the Tour’s penultimate event, scooped a $50,000 prize on top of his overall winnings so far of $192,000 and the title of 2022 Tour Champion.
