The top international chess superstars are set to battle it out over the board from September 13-16 in Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX (aka Chess 960 Fischer Random).

The 2022 Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX kicked off today with an elite 10-player rapid round-robin featuring Chess960 (Fischer Random), a rich variant where the starting arrangement of the pieces is shuffled on the back rank. After the first day of action, 2022 FIDE Candidates winner Ian Nepomniachtchi leads the field with a perfect 3/3 score, while 2018 World Championship challenger Fabiano Caruana is currently in clear second with 2.5/3.

Sinquefield Cup improved anti-cheating measures after Carlsen decided to withdraw. As a result, today the legendary Grandmaster Garry Kasparov was subjected to one of the strictest anti-cheating controls in his life before the 9LX tournament. The video below speaks for itself.

After Hans Niemann defeated the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Carlsen decided to withdraw from the tournament without detailed explanations, but alluding to possible cheating case.

After taking part in his first-ever super-tournament – 2022 Sinquefield Cup, 19-year-old Hans Niemann will be back in Saint Louis Chess Club in November playing the Saint Louis Chess Club Fall Chess Classic, confirmed Tony Rich, the executive director of the Saint Louis Chess Club. The event will take place from 1-11 November and will be played as a 10-player round-robin tournament.
