The FIDE World Cadets Chess Championships 2022, organized by FIDE, the Georgian Chess Federation and the Georgian Chess Club “64”, start today in Batumi, Georgia. The event will be played from 16-28 September, in three age groups – Under 8, 10, 12 and 2 sections – open and girls.

The Egyptian Women’s National Chess Championship 2022 took place from 10-14 September at the 6th of October City Club. The event gathered 63 players who competed in 9 swiss rounds for the title of the National Champion.

The Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov yesterday scored 3/3 at the Saint Louis 9LX Chess to join Alireza Firouzja on the top of the rankings. In the post-games interview, Mamedyarov said that he enjoys Fischer Random: “Normally in classical chess, I just try to play interesting chess and I try to get an interesting position from the opening, but now is from first moves interesting position. It’s much better to play this chess (Fischer Random)!“.

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov surged ahead today in the Champions Showdown, winning all three of his games to finish tied for first with Alireza Firouzja, both on 4.5/6. Yesterday’s leader Ian Nepomniachtchi slipped to third place with 4.0/6, while former World Champion Garry Kasparov was unfortunately once again shut out from scoring any points.
