Prize fund in the Women World Championship to be increased

Upon the end of the official opening ceremony of the FIDE Women’s World Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, Governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova and FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich answered the questions of the mass media.

The Women’s World Championship officially starts in Khanty-Mansiysk

On November 2, the FIDE Women’s World Championship 2018 officially started. The Opening Ceremony of the event was held in the Organ hall of the Concert and theater center “Ugra-Classic”.

Guests and participants had a chance to enjoy fairy-tale organ melodies performed by Elena Kozemirenko before the official part of the ceremony.

The FIDE Women’s World Championship 2018 will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk on November 2-23, 2018. 64 chess players from 28 countries will determine the strongest one according to the knock-out system.

The Tata Steel Chess India Tournament has been opened at the Terrace Garden of the Taj Bengal hotel in Kolkata. The new super-tournament will start with the Rapid event on November 9 at 2pm.

44th Guernsey International Chess Festival concluded

The 44th Guernsey International Chess Festival was held from 21-27 October 2018 at the Peninsula Hotel, Guernsey.

The Open Tournament, sponsored by Intertrust Guernsey, was a 7-round Swiss event with 46 participants. Grandmasters Tiger Hillarp Persson from Sweden and Jean-Pierre Le Roux of France shared the first place with 6,0 points each. Hillarp Persson took the winner’s trophy due to better tie-break.

Spouses win 2018 Chess.com Isle of Man

Radoslaw Wojtaszek emerged winner of the 2018 edition of chess.com Isle of Man International Tournament, by defeating Arkady Naiditsch in a playoff match for the first place. While Wojtaszek was playing for gold, his wife, Alina Kashlinskaya, beat American Grandmaster Sevian Samuel to reach 6 points and 7.000 £ prize, reserved for the best Women player.

Torneio Internacional da Figueira da Foz 2018

The 12th Torneio Internacional da Figueira da Foz is taking place from 28th October to 4th November at the Casa do Paço in Figueira da Foz, Portugal.

The 9-round Swiss tournament is organized by Assembleia Figueirense. Tournament director is António Mota Cardoso and Chief Arbiter is IA Carlos Oliveira Dias.

Among 50 participants from 12 countries there are 7 Grandmasters and 4 International Masters. Full list below.

Fidel Corrales tops the Eastern Chess Congress in New Jersey

The 22nd Annual Eastern Chess Congress was held from October 26-28, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency Princeton, 102 Carnegie Center, Princeton, New Jersey.

The event consisted of six sections: Premier, U2100, U1900, U1700, U1500 and U1250. The playing format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

The main Premier section 43 participants. GM Fidel Corrales took a clear first place with 4,5/5 points and the top prize of 2100 USD.

GM Idani Pouya wins 1st Goa Grandmaster Open

The 1st Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament was held from 13-20th October at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium Bambolim in Taleigao, Goa, India.

The event was organized by the Goa Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federation. The total prize fund was 52,300 USD.

The event consisted of three sections:
- Grandmaster Tournament Open A for players rated over 2000
- Open B for players rated under 2000
- Open C for players rated under 1600
