The 2018 Fall Chess Classic was held from 10-18th October at the Saint Louis Chess Club. There were two 10-player round robins for the total prize fund of $36,000.

The 49-years old Russian GM Aleksey Dreev dominated the Fall Chess Classic A, finishing the event with 6,5/9 points, a full point ahead of the nearest follower. The former World Championship candidate performed at 2821 elo and earned 20 rating points. The top prize was 6000 USD.

The 2018 Isle of Man Chess International is taking place from 20-28th October at the Villa Marina in Douglas. The event will have three sections: Master, Major and Minor.

The Master section is filled to its capacity of 167 participants. World Champion Magnus Carlsen, winner of the last year’s event, and his challenger Fabiano Caruana will skip this edition, for obvious reasons. The field is impressive nevertheless.

The 6th London Chess Conference will take place on the week-end of the 8th and 9th December at the Irish Cultural Centre, Black’s Road, Hammersmith, London W6 9DT.

The leading conference on chess and education is jointly sponsored by Chess in Schools and Communities, the European Chess Union, and Erasmus Plus. Attendees will be able to spectate at the nearby 10th London Chess Classic and to participate in its FIDE rated Open (which will overlap only with the final conference session).

The Altibox Norway Chess Tournament has introduced some major changes in its competition system for the 2019 edition. Most notably, the drawn games will continue with the Armageddon to determine the winner, while the time control will be G120 without increments.

The organizers are excited about the new format, while the fans’ reaction is mixed.
