The Chess Olympiad 2016 will take place 1-22 Spertember in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Dutch Chess Championship 2016 LIVE!

The 2016 Dutch Chess Championship NK Schaken is going to take place 22-28 August in Tropentheater, Amsterdam. The championship is divided in two sections, men and women, and both are round robin events.

Jeffery Xiong and Dinara Saduakassova are 2016 World Junior Champions

In the Open section of 2016 World Junior Championship, GM Jeffery Xiong was held to a draw in the final round by Iran’s Masoud Mosadeghpour. Xiong had dominated the competition throughout and already won the event with a round to spare.

At 16, the American is amongst the youngest World Junior Champions in chess history.

2nd Fiji International Open Chess Tournament

The Fiji Chess Federation organised the 2nd Fiji International Open Chess Tournament, incorporating the Oceania Seniors and Oceania Juniors Championships, which was played from the 14th of August until the 17th of August.

The venue was the Radisson Blu in Denarau which is about 20 minutes from Nadi.

GM Martinovic winner of Split Open 2016

The 6th Split Chess Open 2016, organized by the Chess Club Brda, City of Split and Croatian Chess Federation, was held on 13-20th August at Hotel Zagreb in Split, Croatia.

191 players from 25 countries competed in the 9-round Swiss event with the prize fund of 7500 EUR.

18th Open Internacional de Sants

The 18th International Chess Open de Sants, Hostafrancs & La Bordeta is taking place from 19-28th August 2016 at the Auditori del Centre Cívic de les Cotxeres de Sants in Barcelona, Spain.

The tournament format is 10-round Swiss. There are three playing groups: Open A (all players eligible), Open B (U2100) and Open C (U1800). The tournament will be valid for title norms and for FIDE, FEDA and FCE rating.

Brugsemeesters 2016: Vladimir Epishin with top prize

The Royal Chess Club of Bruges (KBSK) organized the 2016 Brugsemeesters Open tournament from 14-18th August at the KTA in Brugge, Belgium.

The 9-round Swiss event gathered 101 participants.

Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Epishin emerged clear winner with 7,5/9 points, leaving GM Alberto David, IM Awonder Liang and IM Steven Geirnaert half a point behind.

Fidel Corrales convincing in Cleveland Open

The 9th Annual Cleveland Open was held from August 12-14, 2016, at the Marriott Cleveland Airport, 4277 W 150th Street, Cleveland, Ohio.

The tournament had four sections – Open, U2100, U1700 and U1300. The format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

The main Open section had 49 players. GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez took the winner’s trophy with perfect 5,0/5 score to claim the top prize of 2100 USD.

Stockfish crushes the opposition in TCEC

stockfishStockfish continues to amaze at Stage 3 of the Top Chess Engine Championship. After 31 rounds Stockfish is the absolute leader in the standings with 21,5/31, 2,5 points (!!) ahead of the closest competitor.
