TCEC Rapid is scheduled to start this September after Stage 3 of the Top Chess Engine Championship. It will be a 32 engines double round robin with a total of 992 games. The time control is 25 min + 10 sec.

In the Women section the world champion Hou Yifan made a debut in this Olympiad and won her game, but this was not sufficient for the top seeded China to beat Vietnam. Thi Mai Hung Nguyen leveled the score by defeating Zhao Xue – all highlights here.

The long anticipated 42nd World Chess Olympiad began today at the beautiful Baku Chrystal Hall with the games of the first round.

A record breaking 180 teams compete in the Open Section, while the Women Section has 140 teams participating.

The 42nd Chess Olympiad was opened with a solemn but highly entertaining ceremony, held at the Baku National Gymnastics Arena, attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and other delegates, world chess champions as well as various state and government officials.

Players, captains and delegates of the 176 participating federations filled the National Gymnastics Arena to enjoy a wonderful evening.

The Chess Olympiad 2016 will take place 1-22 September in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The 42nd Chess Olympiad is scheduled to start on 1st September with a grand opening ceremony at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The team of 400 artists, choreographers, composers and support staff is making the final dry runs of the ceremony that is supposed to last about one hour. The designer of the ceremony, Viktor Nikolayevich, said the experience would be unforgettable – “The spectators will see a brilliant show.”

Russian Grandmaster Dmitry Andreikin defeated his compatriot Alexandr Predke in the final round of the 23rd Abu Dhabi Masters to emerge clear winner with 7,5/9 points.

On the shared second place are B Adhiban (India) and Bassem Amin (Egypt) with 7 points each. Full standings below.
