On May 23, Anatoly Evgenyevich Karpov, the 12th World Champion, RCF Vice-President, and Russian State Duma Deputy, turned 65.

The Grand Champion of Season 8 – Komodo by GM Larry Kaufman and Mark Lefler – is the winner of the first preliminary stage of the Top Chess Engines Championship. Komodo collected 14,0/15, a magnificent score including a direct victory with black in the last round vs the main contender Houdini.

Grandmaster Timur Gareyev aka. Blindfold King made an impressive score in the simultaneous blindfolded chess exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden on Friday night.

He won 9 of 10 games – and the most difficult task he had to beat was the pedals on the spinning bike – because both broke during the event!

The Women’s Commission (WOM) of the World Chess Federation is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2015 Caissa award is Ms. Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine).

A rapid tournament dedicated to the memory of GM Igor Kurnosov will be held from 26-28th May at the congress hall of the World Trade Center in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

GM Timur Gareyev, USA, aka. Blindfold king will try to set a new world record in Blindfold chess in December. He will meet 47 players blindfolded in Prag.

As a training session he is on world tour. Tonight he will hold a simultaneous chess exhibition – blindfolded – vs 10 plyers from Stockholm, Sweden, including GM Pia Cramling’s daughter Anna Cramling.

The event starts this Friday night at 6.30 PM CET.

Grandmaster Dragan Paunovic passed away after a heart attack at the age 55, a couple of days after completing the open tournament in LLucmajor.

Several years ago Paunovic suffered heart attack during the Team Championship in Valjevo. He recovered after timely intervention.

Peruvian Grandmaster Julio Granda Zuniga completely dominated the 5th Open Internacional de LLucmajor that was held from 8-15th May at the Club Nautico de LLucmajor, Mallorca, Spain.

Granda Zuniga finished the event with 8,5/9 points, conceding only one draw in the 2nd round and then proceeding to defeat a host of Grandmasters. With 2699,3 live elo the 49-years old Grandmaster is on the brink of joining the elite 2700-club.
