Tata Steel 2016 is one of the strongest tournaments in January 2016. The Masters bracket of the tournament features 14 of the most renowned chess players today.

The Pan-American Intercollegiate Chess Championship was held Cleveland, Ohio in the end of 2015. It was a qualification event for the Final Four of College Chess in April.

The 2016 Memorial Slobodan Martinovic is taking place on January 10, in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia.

The event is a rapid chess tournament with time control 10′ + 5″.

Serbian Olympic player GM Milos Perunovic (2641) heads the field of 50 players, including 6 GMs, 7 IMs, 1 WIM and 8 FMs.

The last year has been an innovative and exciting one for Online Chess. 1.680.000 rated games have been played in FIDE Online Arena and 750 Arena titles have been awarded to the members.

The first World Online Championships were successfully organized.

The 25th Keres Memorial – ACP Open takes place from January 8 to January 10 in Tallinn, Estonia.

From 15 to 17 December 2015 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Dili, Timor-Leste, by the Asian Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Timor-Leste Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.
