International chess tournament Golden Island Krk 2014

The 2nd International chess tournament Golden Island Krk 2014 is organized by the Chess club “Draga” Rijeka and Chess club “Krk” on 6-12th April, 2014, at the Hotel Malin in Malinska, Island Krk, Croatia.

Tournament System: Swiss, FIDE variant, 9 rounds, 90 minutes + 30 sec increment for every move (from the beginning of the game)

Prizes: 1. 1100 EUR; 2. 700 EUR; 3. 400 EUR; 4. 300 EUR; 5. 200 EUR; 6. 100 EUR

7th NY International

The world famous Marshall Chess Club is organizing the 7th NY International on 18-22th June. The event will have three sections: FIDE Norm, U2200 and U1900.

FIDE Norm Section is open to all players rated 2200 or above (USCF or FIDE) and special invitees. The playing format is 9 rounds, Swiss System, 40/90, SD/30, 30 second increment.

The section prize fund is $12,500 unconditionally guaranteed: $5000-2500-1500-1000, U2500 FIDE $1000, U2400 $1000, U2300 $500, plus special brilliancy prize.

Viktor Bologan wins Cebanenco Memorial

Top Moldavian player GM Viktor Bologan emerged winner of the International Rapid Chess Festival – Veaceslav Cebanenco Memorial after an exciting last round and Armageddon tie-break.

The Veaceslav Cebanenco Memorial took place on 1-2nd April at the Republican Chess and Draughts Club, Sciusev street 111, in Chisinau, Moldova.

Komodo, Fire and Rybka on top at TCEC Stage 2 after twelve rounds

Three engines lead the second stage of TCEC Stage 2. Rybka (3076 ELO) is back on top with 9/12, together with Fire (2984 ELO) and last season’s champion Komodo (3131 ELO).

In the twelfth round Komodo and Fire drew against Texel and Gull respectively, while Rybka managed to outplay Junior with the black pieces in Benoni Defence. You can see the win of Rybka below:

DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah KL International Open Starting

The DYTM Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah KL International Open Chess Championship 2014 is starting today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and continues until 11th April.

The tournament will be played over 9 rounds using the Swiss System according to World Chess Federation (FIDE) Title & Rating Regulations.

Blondes defeat Brunettes in traditional match

The traditional match between ”Blondes” and “Brunettes” took place on 1st April in the restaurant “Carlson” in Moscow.

This time Caissa favored the Blondes who won with the score 48,5:32,5 to take the overall lead 2,5:1,5 in all matches held from 2011.

Grandmaster Valentina Gunina and International Master Maria Fominikh recorded the best individual results of 8,5/9 points each. IM Alina Bivol collected 8 points.

Among the Brunettes GM Marina Guseva excelled to finish with 7 points.

Illya Nyzhnyk set for SPICE and Webster University

Ukrainian Grandmaster Illya Nyzhnyk recently decided to begin his higher education in the United States. He was offered scholarships from multiple excellent universities. At the end, he decided to attend Webster University and applied for admission less than a month ago.

He just passed his TOEFL exam, and was officially admitted earlier today. He will begin his study in St. Louis in a few months.
