Latvian Railway Open LIVE!

Riga Chess federation has a pleasure to announce the Latvian Railway Open, one of the strongest rapid chess opens in the World.

The tournament will be held on 28-30 March, 2014, at the Latvian railway museum in Riga, Latvia. The tournament will be held in three groups A, B and C.

Top participants include Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Malakhov, Sergei Zhigalko, Viktor Bologan, Loek Van Wely, Igor Lysyj, Ogor Kovalenko, Daniel Fridman, David Navara, Sergei Azarov, etc.

Organization of EYCC in Budva broke the law, authorities said

sahMontenegro Directorate of Youth and Sport, a government body, inspected the documents and accounts of 13 sport federations and 7 clubs.

The inspection found that the Montenegro Chess Federation broke the law during the organization of 2013 European Youth Chess Championships in Budva, “Sahovska Hronika” quoted the Montenegrin News Agency MINA.

Day of draws in Candidates Tournament, Anand still in full point lead

All four games of the 11th round of the FIDE World Candidates Tournament ended in draws.

The first to split the point were former World Champions Vladimir Kramnik and Viswanathan Anand. Peter Svidler and Levon Aronian, Dmitry Andreikin and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, followed the suit around the first time control.

Sergey Karjakin was pressing for a victory against Veselin Topalov, but the Bulgarian was alert to parry all the threats.

Serbian Women’s Chess Championship 2014

The 8th Serbian Chess Championship for women is taking place from 27th March to 6th April in Banja Junaković, Apatin.

Twelve players will compete in the round robin tournament. The defending champion is WGM Marija Manakova.

2014 Polish Chess Championship

The Polish Chess Championship for Men is taking place March 25 – April 2. A total of 22 players participate, of them 12 are Grandmasters. Top seeded is Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2713), followed by Mateusz Bartel (2662), Bartosz Socko (2651), Michal Krasenkow (2640), Grzegorz Gajewski (2631), Dariusz Swiercz (2631), Kacper Piorun (2570), Tomasz Markowski (2566), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2563), etc.

GM Saša Martinović wins Zagreb Open on tie-break

The 2014 Zagreb Chess Open was held on 17-24th March at the Panorama Zagreb Hotel, Krešimir Ćosić Square in Zagreb, Croatia.

The nine round Swiss tournament was organized by the Zagreb Chess Union and the Zagreb Sports Union. 197 players from ten countries competed. There were 16 Grandmasters and 15 International Masters in the field.

Anand maintains one point lead after round 10

Former World Champion Viswanathan Anand maintained a full point lead in the FIDE World Candidates Tournament after playing a draw with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in round 10.

Anand’s nearest rival Levon Aronian also made a draw, with white against Veselin Topalov.

In the all-Russian matches Peter Svidler defeated Vladimir Kramnik, while Sergey Karjakin and Dmitry Andreikin drew.
