International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2017

The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2017, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, is scheduled to take place from 2-12th May at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan.

The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.

Match Gaprindashvili – Sveshnikov in Jurmala

A chess festival will take place in Jurmala, Latvia, on March 25-26, featuring rapid tournament for seniors (55+) and juniors (under 15), and a friendly match between former World Champion Nona Gaprindashvili (Georgia) and Senior World Team Champion Evgeny Sveshnikov (Russia).

The games of the match will be relayed live. Evgeny Sveshnikov will also hold a master class and simultaneous exhibition.

Silver Lake Chess Festival 2017

Municipality Veliko Gradište, Chess Club VGSK, Branicevo Chess Union and Danubia Hotels are warmly welcoming all participants and guests to the Chess Festival “Silver Lake 2017″.

The Chess Festival will take place from 18-25th June, 2017, at the “Kamin hall” of Restaurant Sidro and “Great hall” of Danubia Park Hotel on Silver Lake in Serbia.

1st Sharjah Masters International Chess Championship

The Sharjah Chess & Culture Club is organizing the 1st Sharjah Masters international Chess Championship, which will be held at Sharjah Chess & Culture Club from 22nd March to 31st March 2017.

The Masters is held under the Patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The tournament is open for all players rated above 1500 FIDE. The playing format is 9-round Swiss with the time control 90′+30”.

The total prize fund is US $60,000, with US $15,000 reserved for the winner.

The Lecturer will be IA Ashot Vardapetian (ARM), Chairman of the FIDE Rules Commission and FIDE Lecturer.

World Champion Tan Zhongyi honored in China

Tan Zhongyi, who recently became a new Women’s World Chess Champion, was honored at the celebration organized by the State Sports General Administration of Chess Sports Management Center, China Chess Association and Shandong Province authorities and businesses.

The champion received a 100,000 yuan reward and a valuable sapphire from the famous Shandong Jingzhi company.

Karjakin takes up Putin offer for civil servant role

Sergey Karjakin has accepted President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to join the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation.

On Monday morning Karjakin posted a photo on his Twitter account showing the invitation signed by Putin.

“According to the Federal law from April 4, 2005 ‘Of the Civil Chamber or Russian Federation’ (I am) inviting you to join the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation. Please, address your decision to the Moscow Kremlin,” reads the letter signed by Putin.
