The US Women Chess Championship 2016 will start on Thursday, April 14 in St Louis. The 2016 U.S. Women’s Championship will feature seven-time U.S. Women’s Champion GM Irina Krush, who seeks to maintain her iron grip over an up-and-coming field of American females. The 12-player round robin will also include 8 players selected by the January 2016 U.S. Chess rating supplement, two wildcards and the U.S. Junior Girls Champion, 15-year-old WIM Ashritha Eswaran, who also appeared in the 2014 U.S. Women’s Championship.

Three-time British champion David Howell and UAE national coach Ivan Sokolov of the Netherlands lead seven other grandmasters (GMs) who remain unblemished after three rounds of action in the Dubai Open Chess Championship – Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup  at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

Grandmaster Alexander Morozevich has scored back-to-back victories in the Russian Rapid Grand Prix after grabbing the trophy in Cheboksary. Earlier this week he won the Star Trek tournament in Korolev.

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 22 to 26 June 2016 in Silver Lake – Veliko Gradiste, Serbia, by the Serbian Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Romanian Chess Championships 2016 for men and women were held from 2-10th April at Hotel Parang in Olanesti.

The Championships were organized by the F.R. Sah, CS Tinerii Maestrii Bucuresti and IO Elena Cristian. Both sections were played as 9-round Swiss events.

TCEC Season 9, the strongest ever chess engine championship, is fast approaching. Starting this May 1st a total of 32 engines, ten of which over 3000 ELO, will participate in the Top Chess Engine Championship.
