38th Ikaros International Chess Tournament 2015

Once again, for the 38th consecutive time, “Ikaros” is preparing to host the Greek and foreign chess players who will visit the beautiful island of Ikaria this summer seeking to combine chess with low cost vacation.

The 38th International Chess Tournament “Ikaros” 2015 will be held from Saturday 11th till Sunday 19th of July at Aghios Kirykos, the capital town of Ikaria. This year “Ikaros” introduces some changes that we hope will make the tournament more interesting.

FIDE World Amateur Championships concluded in Porto Carras

The new World Amateur Champions for 2015 have been crowned in Porto Carras: Mire Deniz Dogan from Turkey and Paula-Alexandra Gitu from Moldova are the new title holders for the categories of men and women with a FIDE rating less than 2000!

In the open section (men), Mire Deniz Dogan scored 8 points in 9 rounds (7 wins and 2 draws) winning the championship undefeated! The 13-year old Konstantinos Michaelides from Cyprus won the silver medal and Kaimar Puusepp from Estonia won the bronze medal.

Russian Championship Girls 2015 LIVE!

The Russian Individual Chess Championship for girls is taking placed from 21-30th April, 2015, in Loo.

The event is a 10-player round-robin tournament and the winner will qualify for the 2015 World Girls Championship and 2015 Russian Women’s High League.

Top seed is WIM Alina Bivol (2350).

Gashimov Memorial 2015 – Round 5 (Video)

The 2nd Vugar Gashimov Memorial is taking place on 16-25th April, 2015, in Shamkir, Azerbaijan.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, moving into the lead with 4/5 points after Wesley So lost to Viswanathan Anand. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov scored a win against Vladimir Kramnik.

Greek Chess Championship 2015

Hydra island of Greece is the host of the Greek National Individual Chess Championship, 65th Individual Championship and 38th Women’s Individual Championship, will be held from 21 to 29 April 2015. Organizers are the Greek Chess Federation and Chess Hydra Group.

The competitions are under the auspices of the Municipality of Hydra, with the participation of the Region of Attica, local organizations and the event will be conducted in the area of the Historical Archive – Museum of Hydra.

5th International Ferdynand Dziedzic Chess Memorial

The 5th International Ferdynand Dziedzic Chess Memorial was organized by Stowarzyszenie im. Ferdynanda Dziedzica on 19th April in Trzcianka, Poland.

The tournament format was 9-round Swiss with the time control 10′+5”. The event was also valid for the Polish Rapid Chess Championship.

301 players from 11 countries competed. Among them were 27 Grandmasters and 10 International Masters.

1st Asian University Chess Championship 2015

Federation of University Sports of China and Asian University Sports Federation are announcing the 1st Asian University Chess Championship, which will be held from 18-25th October in Capital University of Physical Education and Sports in Beijing, China.

When Nigel Short, one of UK’s greatest ever chess players, challenged Garry Kasparov for the world title in 1993, the pair met as bitter rivals.

But it appears the British grandmaster has finally found common ground with his Russian opponent: they both believe women are not suited to the game.

Gashimov Memorial 2015 – Round 4 (Video)

The 2nd Vugar Gashimov Memorial is taking place on 16-25th April, 2015, in Shamkir, Azerbaijan.

GM Wesley So defeated GM Rauf Mamedov in a superb game to take sole lead with 3,5 points from four games. World Champion Magnus Carlsen is half a point behind. All the other remaining games ended in draws.

4th European Small Nations Tournament LIVE!

The 4th European Small Nations Tournament is held from 18-25th April at Les Cotils, Guernsey.

The event is  a 9-round Swiss tournament with tempo of play 90′/ 40 + 30′ + 30″ and an average Elo rating of 2088.

GM Aguado Oscar De La Riva of Andorra (2507) heads the field of 49 players from 10 different countries (Andorra, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco and San Marino).
