The 18th Corsican Circuit is taking place on 18-22nd October 2014 in Corsica, an island in the Mediterranean Sea belonging to France.

The International Chess Festival “Mikhail Chigorin Memorial” 2014 is taking place on 17-26th October 2014 at Hotel “Park” in Saint Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia.

The event is a 9-round Swiss Open with prize fund in the amount of 1.800.000 RUB (nearly 35.000 €).

The World Junior Chess Championships 2014 (for boys & girls under 20) are being held in Pune, India, from 6th to 19th October 2014.

From 4 to 7 October 2014 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Palmira, Colombia, by the Colombian Chess Federation and the Commission for Women’s Chess, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Washington Chess Congress was held from October 8-13, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia.

The event had 4 sections: Premier, Under 2100, Under 1700 and Under 1300. The tournament format was 7-round Swiss with the time control 40/110, SD/30, d10.

The total prize fund was around $23,000, significantly down from the expected $40,000.

The 23rd Croatian Team Chess Championships for Men and Women were organized by the Croatian Chess Federation on 3-13th October 2014 at the Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa in Bol on island Brac in Croatia.
