Reno Western States Open 2014

The 32nd Annual Sands Regency Reno – Western States Open was held on 17-19th October at the Sands Regency Hotel in Reno, Nevada, USA.

The tournament consisted of five sections and was completed over six rounds of Swiss system. The total prize fund was $25,000 based on 275 entries, with $16,250 guaranteed.

A total of 175 players competed, with 51 participants in the top Open section.

24th World Senior Chess Championships 50+ LIVE!

The 2014 FIDE World Senior Chess Championships are held from 23rd October to 5th November 2014 in the conference center of the 5 – star hotel “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini, Greece.

47 players from 23 different countries are taking part in the event, including 10 GMs, 7 IMs and 7 FMs.

3rd Anatoly Karpov Trophy in Cap d’Agde

Cape d'Agde Karpov TrophyThe 3rd Anatoly Karpov Trophy is running from 23rd October to 25th October 2014 in Cap d’Agde, a Mediterranean resort of the town of Adge in France.

6th Korbach Open 2014

The 6th Korbach Open 2014 is taking place on 23-26th October 2014 in Korbach, Germany.

The event is split into three tournaments: Open A (7-round Swiss tournament, open to all), Open B (7-round Swiss open for players rated below 2000 DWZ) and Open C (7-round Swiss tournament for players under 1400 DWZ).

The main prizes in Open A will be awarded as follows: 700 €/ 550 €/ 350 €/ 200 €/ 100 €.

24th World Senior Chess Championships – Participants

The 2014 FIDE World Senior Chess Championships will be held from 23 October to 5 November in the conference center of “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini, Olympus Riviera, Greece

In accordance with the FIDE tournament rules, the Championship will be played in two categories: one for those who shall have reached the age of 50 (category SENIOR 50+), and one for those who shall have reached the age of 65 (category SENIOR 65+) by December 31st of the year in which the tournament will commence.

The last round of TCEC Season 7 – Stage 1b is in progress and five chess engines fight for the last qualifying spot.

Three rounds completed at EYCC 2014 in Batumi

The third round of the European Youth Chess Championship 2014 in Batumi was completed on Tuesday, and in some groups favorites already emerged.

In the oldest boys group three players have maximum score – Valerii Iovcov from Romania, IM Alexey Zenzera from Russia and FM Melih Yurtseven from Turkey. Yurtseven defeated the top seed GM Avital Boruchovsky from Israel in the 3rd round.

Al Ain Chess Classics 2014

The Al Ain Chess Club invites all FIDE rated players to participate in the 3rd Al Ain Chess Classics from 18-27th December 2014.

The 9-round Swiss tournament will take place at the Al Ain Rotana Hili Hotel.

Top prizes are 1st $11,000 / $8,500 / $6,000 / $4,500 / $3,000 / $2,000 etc (20 regular prizes)
There are also special prizes for women, juniors, regional players and elo sections.
