GM Aleksander Mista winner of Railway Bank Open in Arad

The Railway Bank Open, formerly Arad Open, was organized by the ACS Sah Club Vados from 4-10th August at the Cultural Palace in Arad, Romania.

The event consisted of four sections: Main Open, U12, U10 and U8 youth tournaments. All groups were played over nine rounds of Swiss system.

The main section had 230 participants. GM Aleksandar Mista of Poland took a clear first place with 8,0 points, half a point ahead of GMs Andrey Vovk (UKR) and Krzysztof Jakubowski (POL).

Chess Olympiad 2018 to take place in Batumi, Georgia

Batumi, Georgia, won the bidding procedure for the 2018 Chess Olympiad. The event will be accompanied by World Cup 2017 in popular resort on the Black Sea. (stay tuned for more details from the meeting today in Tromso)

The proposed budget for both events is exceeding 20 million USD.

13th World University Chess Championship

The 13th World University Chess Championship is set to take place from 17th to 24th August at the Park Hotel Diament in Katowice, Poland.

The Championship is organized by the Polish Chess Federation and FISU, and will be held in two sections – Men and Women.

Each national federation is entitled to register up to 8 players in total. Both sections will be played over nine rounds of Swiss system.
