7The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2014 have been officially opened in Dubai, UAE.

GM Nosenko leads Alekhine Memorial in Voronezh with perfect score

GM Alexander Nosenko (Ukraine) leads Alekhine Memorial (Master Open) Voronezh with perfect score 4/4 points.  Second place is shared in a 4-way tie by GM Vladislav Artemiev (Russia), GM Pavel Ponkratov (Russia), GM Dmitry Kokarev (Russia) and 

2nd Golden Apricot Tournament LIVE!

The 2nd International Golden Apricot Chess Tournament is taking place from 14th to 20rd June, 2014, at the Ataturk Sport Center in the city of Malatya, Turkey.

The event is organized by the Turkish Chess Federation, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality and Malatya GHSİM in a 9 round Swiss format with a time control 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

The total prize fund is in the amount of 35 000 TL and the winner will be granted 4000 TL.

The organizers of the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships, which will take place on 15-21st June in Dubai, have uploaded a promotional video on YouTube.

In Memoriam: GM Andrei Kharlov

GM Andrei Kharlov, Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, passed away at the age of 46, the Russian Chess Federation reported.

Kharlov won the Russian Junior Championship in 1988, shared 1-5th place in Russian Chess Championship 1990, shared 1-4th place in European Championship 2000, won the European Club Cup and Russian Team Championship with Kazan, and reached quarter-finals in the 2004 World Championship in Tripoli.

GM Zoran Jovanovic takes the trophy in Pula

The 28th International Open Tournament Pula 2014 took place on 7-14th June at the Hotel Park Plaza Histria in Pula, Croatia.

The 9-round Swiss event was organized by the Chess Club Pula and Croatian Chess Federation. The total prize fund was 8750 EUR.

GM Zoran Jovanovic won the tournament with 7,5/9 points, after defeating GM Tamas Fodor in the last round to overtake him in the standings.

7th Karen Asrian Memorial LIVE!

The 7th Annual Karen Asrian Memorial is taking place from 16th to 24th June, 2014, in the prominent SPA resort of Jermuk, Armenia.

The event is a 9 round Swiss Open with a time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.
