Batavia Chess Tournament 2014

The 6th Batavia Chess Tournament takes place from Friday, February 21th to Sunday, March 2nd, 2014 in Café Batavia 1920, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The games will start each day at 14:00 hrs. The final round starts at 12.00 hrs. Wednesday, February 26th is a rest day.

Cafe Batavia welcomes spectators and International Master Yochanan Afek hosts a special afternoon program in Cafe Batavia.

Sagaalgan Chess Festival 2014

The 12th Sagaalgan Chess Festival 2014 will take place from 28th February to 2nd March at the Buddhist University “Dashi Choynhorlin” in Ivolga Datsan, near Ulan-Ude in the Russian Republic of Buryatia.

The tournament is organized by the Russian Chess Federation, Buddhist University “Dashi Choynhorlin”, Republic of Buryatia and the Chess Federation of Buryatia.

Travel Fund for the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromsø

Important message to the FIDE family:

On behalf of the Organizer of the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromsø, it is a pleasure to announce that a travel fund of up to 600,000 EUR will be made available to federations who wants to participate in the Olympiad.

The aim of the travel fund is to help those federations who are in need of financial support in order to send teams to Tromsø.

7th Karen Asrian Memorial Chess Tournament

The Armenian Chess Federation is organizing an international open chess tournament, dedicated to the memory of Karen Asrian, which will take place on June 15-25, 2014, in the prominent resort town of Jermuk.

All interested chess players can participate in the 9-round Swiss tournament. GM Robert Hovhannisyan was the winner of the 6th Asrian Memorial.

Burmakin and Lajthajm share first place in Villach Open

The 5th International Villach Open took place on 8-15th February, 2014, at the Volkshaus Völkendorf, Neubaugasse 9, A-9500 Villach, Austria.

The event was organized by the ESV ASKÖ Admira Villach Sektion Schach and is valid as the 32nd open championship of the city of Villach.

75 players competed in the 9-round Swiss tournament.

Kolkata Open 2014

Alekhine Chess Club, Kolkata, India organises the 19th edition of the prestigious International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament, carrying a prize money of Rs.14,00,000/- (approximately 22500 USD) from 18th to 27th March 2014.

First prize of the tournament will be Rs.400,000 and only players with a rating of 2200 and above may be allowed to participate. Last date for entry is 10th March without late fee and 16th March with late fee.

Davit Maghalashvili wins the tournament in Tbilisi

Tbilisi Chess Academy organized a 10-player round robin tournament from 6th to 11th February.

Georgian IM Davit Maghalashvili convincingly won the competition with 6,5/9 points, leaving the nearest followers point and a half behind. He also succeeded in earning a Grandmaster norm.
